Thank you for considering the Air Force Academy Midget Showcase. In all areas of the country, events are hosted which provide hockey players with opportunities to showcase their talent and be seen by advanced level coaches, a couple of examples are the Model Camp in Minnesota and the Chowder Cup in Boston. I created the Colorado Select Festival eleven years ago to provide an affordable showcase event for the top young players in the Rocky Mountain region. Over the years, the program has evolved and high level players from 20 different States as well as Canada and Europe have participated, additionally, over 80 former participants have gone on to play Junior "A" and college hockey, nearly 20 alone have gone on to play at Air Force, Colorado College, and Denver.
Because of the increased interest of Midget aged players wanting to be scouted by not only Air Force, but AAA, Junior "A", and other college programs as well, I decided to drop the levels below Midget and focus solely on prospect aged players. The result is a combined U16 and U18 field creating a true Midget Showcase.
The AFA Midget Showcase is an event where players can come to display their skills and be seen in a competitive tournament environment. The Showcase staff will include coaches from AAA, Junior "A", college, and USA Hockey. The Showcase provides participants with four games in a "medal" format over a three day weekend. Each team will consist of no more than 16 Skaters and 2 Goaltenders, all players will receive equal playing time. The games begin on Friday, June 22 and conclude on Sunday, June 24, each game consists of two 25 minute stop time periods, team standings and individual scoring statistics are tracked, each game features Players of the Game, All-Showcase Teams and Showcase MVP's in each birth year are recognized at the conclusion of the event. USA Hockey rules apply, the only exception being the "tag up" offside rule, certified USA Hockey officials will be utilized. Regarding physical play, angular and "contact" checking is permitted, head on and "collision" checking is not, I do not believe in putting players overly at risk of injury in a summer showcase.
In addition to the games, an informational seminar will be conducted on Saturday, June 23 at 3:00pm. The seminar is included in the cost of the program and will consist of speakers from AAA, Junior "A", college, and USA Hockey. The speakers will explain how the advanced level process and system works as well as provide answers for any questions asked by parents and players.
Team placement consideration will be given to players who car pool together. If car pooling, please make sure to note travel partner(s) on the registration form. All competitive Club and High School players born between 1994 and 1997 are encouraged to attend, experienced goalies only please, due to the small number of goaltenders needed to fill the rosters, only 94, 95, & 96's will be accepted. Positions will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
For out of town participants, there are no rooming options at the Air Force campus dormitories over the weekend of the Showcase. Therefore participants need to secure their own lodging, a list of local hotel contacts will be provided upon request by sending an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
In closing, if you are a top player, or more importantly, if you are someone who aspires to be top player, then the Air Force Academy Midget Showcase is for you!
