Air Force Men's Basketball Introduces 30 for $30,000 Hometown Team Campaign to Help Provide Aid for Local Residents

    Sept. 18, 2013

As college basketball season approaches Air Force head men's basketball coach Dave Pilipovich and the Falcons encourage you to join your Hometown Team to help make an immediate impact in the Colorado Springs community. Whether affected by recent natural disasters, layoffs, illness or other unexpected happenstance, over one third of the people living in the Pikes Peak Region are having trouble meeting such basic needs as food, shelter, clothing, utility assistance of medical care - the majority of those affected being women and children. With these unimagined hardships taking a daily toll on families along the Front Range we are reminded of the importance of perseverance, determination and unity throughout all aspects of life.

While these lessons certainly apply to the Falcons on the court they are much more meaningful when applied on a grander scale. In respect to the values exhibited by our resilient neighbors and those that have given their time and effort to help friends and loved ones carry on through tough times, Coach P and the Air Force men's basketball team would like to invite Falcon fans to take part in a special 30 for $30,000 fundraising campaign to tip-off the 2013-14 basketball season. Starting on September 30th and spanning 30 days through the 30th of October, Coach Pilipovich will pledge a donation of $10 for every new Air Force men's basketball season ticket sold to provide aid for local families and individuals through the Pikes Peak United Way's Community Fund. The non-profit's unique Cornerstone Program - one of less than twenty such programs worldwide - guarantees that 100% of every charitable dollar raised remains right here at home helping those in need. Through funding of this kind the United Way is able to meet the basic needs of nearly 130,000 local residents a year providing food, shelter, clothing, utility assistance and medical care to those struggling to make ends meet - that's one person every four minutes.
