January 19, 2010
I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and best wishes as we enter 2010.
We certainly capped off a great 2009 football season with a convincing Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl win over Houston. Not only did we play one of the best games of the season in every area, but we defeated an excellent football team that was ranked in the top 25. In the process, we won our first bowl game since 2000, beat a top 25 team for the first time since 2003 to snap a streak of 14 straight losses, but we also posted a third-straight season with eight or more wins for just the second time in school history. Congratulations to coach Troy Calhoun and his awesome staff for a tremendous job!
I want to thank everyone who helped support the bowl game with ticket sales. We're thrilled with the support of our fans and have had the three most successful bowl games in terms of ticket sales in Academy history. Over the last three years, we have sold 27,000 tickets! As competitive as the bowl business is, these numbers will continue to help us secure future bowl games.
We have a lot to look forward to as we begin 2010. Men's and women's basketball have begun Mountain West Conference play, along with our hockey program that is already in the midst of its conference season. We also have men's and women's swimming and diving, wrestling, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's indoor track and field, fencing, rife and baseball that have either started their seasons or will shortly.
We need your continued support of all our athletic teams, so please come out and support our programs with your attendance. Be sure to keep up with all the latest in Falcon Athletics on our website, goairforcefalcons.com.
