WHERE ARE THEY NOW: Former football standout Jarvis Baker

Colonel Jarvis Baker is the Air Force Academy vice athletic director. Baker returned to his alma mater after serving as the commander of the 78th Mission Support Group, Air Force Material Command at Robins Air Force Base, Ga.

Baker managed and led 1,360 military and civilian personnel and operated all support functions required to maintain the combat readiness and effectiveness of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, 78th Air Base Wing, and 30 units representing five major commands. Baker also oversaw a $19.7M annual budget for the operation of logistics readiness, security forces, and force support and assesses future requirements and plans to meet Robins Air Force Base long-range support requirements.

Baker graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1993. He began his career in the information management field, filling multiple special duty assignments and serving as a squadron section commander and group executive officer. After cross-training, he served in numerous financial management positions at all levels of the Air Force including as the commander of the 15th comptroller squadron; chief of customer service, comptroller directorate, Air Force Space Command and deputy chief, budget operations for the office of the assistant secretary of the Air Force for financial management and comptroller at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Baker has had multiple deployments, been assigned to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the State Department and a Joint Services tour in support of the Security Assistance Office-Pakistan, US Embassy Islamabad Pakistan.

Baker was a three-year letterman in football at quarterback. He helped the 1990 and 1991 teams to Liberty Bowl victories. The Falcons beat Ohio State in 1990 and Mississippi State in 1991. He was the starting quarterback in 1992 and led the team to a 7-5 overall record and appearance in the Liberty Bowl vs. Mississippi.
