Cheerleading Camps:

Thank you for considering the Air Force Academy Sports Camp for your summer Cheerleading Camp. We are very excited about the upcoming camp and would love to see you here. Our goal is to provide individual instruction that is both challenging and rewarding for the campers. Primary attention will focus on cheers and chants, cheer motions, jumps, and dance. In addition, we will work on the basics of stunting, beginning tumbling and talk about how as cheerleaders we are leaders in our school and community.

We want the campers to enjoy their time with us and will take breaks for discussion topics, games and socializing. The instructional staff strongly believes that FUN is an important ingredient of the camp. This year we will run 2 sessions of camp for Cheerleaders. Session 1 will be entirely devoted for young girls 5-12 and they will attend in the Mornings (8:30am - 12:00pm). Camp will be all week -- Monday through Friday for the Morning session (commuters only-no boarders during Session 1).

Session 2 will be the traditional all-day camp and will run from 8:30am until 4:30pm for girls, ages 12-18 (for boarders or commuters). The last day in Session 2 will be a half day from 8:30am - 12:00pm. By the end of the sessions, everyone is exhausted, but somehow finds the energy to perform for the parents and friends. This performance is the finale of our camp and will showcase a portion of what was taught throughout the week.

Dance Camps:

We are so excited to announce that this summer we will be offering dance camps for the first time at the AFA Sports Camps! This camp is a great opportunity for dancers of all ages and levels to learn new skills and combinations, as well as work on current skills with one-on-one instruction in a low-pressure environment, where having fun and dancing is our number one goal! Our beautiful dance facility, located right here at the United States Air Force Academy in the Cadet Gym, is equipped with hard wood floors, ballet barres, and full- length mirrors.

Our staff includes head coach of the AFA Dance Team, McKenna Brink, as well as several current collegiate dancers, with whom campers will be dancing with and learning from. The staff’s level of dance technique and experience with teaching dancers of all ages can insure that your child will have a positive camp experience! Our staff truly appreciates that you’ve chosen our program for your summer camp, and we are dedicated to making it a fun and memorable experience.

Campers in Session 1 will learn basic technique and skills in ballet, pom and hip-hop. They will learn a pom combination, as well as several of the AFA Dance Team’s sidelines and cheers that they perform on game days. We will perform for our friends and family what we have learned on the last day of camp! This session will be focused towards beginners and/or dancers ages TBD. It will run Monday-Friday, from 8am-11:30am, commuters only. (No boarders during Session 1.)

Campers in Session 2 can expect to learn new skills including jumps, turns, and leaps, as well as working on their current technique. They will learn a variety of combinations including jazz/contemporary, pom and hip-hop and will also learn several of the AFA Dance Team’s sidelines and cheers that they perform on game days. This session will be the traditional, all-day camp, running from 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Thursday, June 20-23, and 8:30am-12:00pm on Friday, June 24. It will be geared towards intermediate and advanced dancers, and/or ages 12-18. On the last day of camp, Friday, June 24, campers will be performing what they have learned for our family and friends!

Team Camps (Cheer and Dance):

This year, we are proud to offer dance and cheer team camps during session 3 of the AFA Sports Camps. Please join us to begin your team’s season on a positive note, right here at the beautiful Air Force Academy, in Colorado Springs, Colorado!

Dance teams can expect to learn a variety of combinations with the latest choreography and skills, as well as receive customized practices and team technique classes while at AFA! Not only will camp provide a great technical dance foundation to kick start your season, but teambuilding exercises will insure bonds that will last all year long. Our staff will work with coaches leading up to camp in order to customize the best experience for your specific team and goals that you’ve set for the season.

Cheer teams will focus on the fundamentals and skills important to your team! Things such as game day planning, dances, stunting, safety execution, and competition preparation are examples of the clinics that will be provided for team’s in addition to one-on-one coaching and team practices. By developing personalized sidelines and cheers with our staff and improving skills such as jumps and kicks, there’s no doubt that the AFA team camp will get your cheer season off to a great start!

Our staff includes Division 1 College Coaches, Laura Hutcheon and McKenna Brink, as well as several male and female collegiate cheerleaders and dancers from across the country. Together, our staff has a wealth of knowledge--from technique to choreography, and sidelines to competitions--we are confident we can help better your team in a relaxed and fun environment.

Mascot Camp:

Are you a high school or college mascot?! Are you interested in being one?! Join us for the AFA Summer Sports Camps first ever Mascot Camp, to learn how to become one or improve your current mascot skills!

Campers can expect to learn new technique and skills in the areas of picture posing, fan-interaction, dancing, and stunting, as well as practice and perfect current ones. Things such as character building through animation and emotion, and proper costume maintenance, will be discussed in our low-pressure and fun camp atmosphere!

Camp staff includes the Air Force Academy’s mascot coaches, Laura Hutcheon and McKenna Brink, as well as current professional and collegiate mascots. Our staff is dedicated to expanding your knowledge and skill set, in order to be a successful mascot.

If you are a current mascot and are able to bring your suit, you’re encouraged to do so! Camp will be half-days during Session 1, from 1:00pm-4:30pm. Mascot camp is open to individuals ages 12-18.

Camp Check-in Process

If you choose to attend our camp, we ask campers to wear comfortable shorts and t-shirts to class. Cheer or Dance specific shoes are recommended, but regular tennis shoes will suffice if  shoes are not available. We have rapid weather changes here at the Academy. However, we try to move the classes outside whenever possible. Campers are requested to bring sunscreen lotion to protect against sunburn for all outdoor activities.

Upon checking into the camp, campers will receive a schedule for the week that identifies the meeting place for each day's class as well as a detailed breakout for how the day will be spent.

We know there are many camps for you to choose from, and we are honored that you are considering ours. We hope to see you this summer and wish you the best of luck in your cheer endeavors!
