Parents and Future Volleyball Stars (Sessions 1 & 2: ages 10-18; Session 3: ages 8-14)
We have two goals for you at the Air Force Volleyball Camp: Learn all you can in 5 short days to become a better volleyball player and HAVE FUN doing it!! We hire great coaches who can teach you how to improve during camp and also how to improve on your own after you leave camp. Our coaches also understand that players learn in different ways. Our coaches are gifted at finding that way to teach you; by showing, by telling, and by guiding you through each skill until you make the changes needed to learn new skills.
To be a successful volleyball player, you need to have good individual skills and the ability to perform those skills in game like situations. Since the ball is always in motion, players need to be able to go from one skill to another quickly; pass, then go hit, set, then go block, serve, then go play defense. With this in mind, each day we spend some time working on individual skills and then later in the day working on those same skills in game like scenarios.
With over 140 players at each camp, there is a wide variety of skill level. In order to challenge each player we incorporate two programs.
Skill Grouping: Each player is placed in a group of players based on both skill level and age; this allows coaches to push their group at their level. Less experienced players are taught the fundamental skills which will give them more confidence in game situations. More experienced players will be taught more subtle techniques within each fundamental skill.
Stations: We know that players come to camp with particular things they want out of camp; "I want to learn to serve overhand" or "I want to learn to jump set, etc." With this in mind, we schedule a portion of each afternoon and allow players to work on whatever skill they choose. We place coaches on courts and have them teach one particular skill and allow players to pick the court and coach of their choice. In this way, if a player wants to spend extra time on serving or defense or hitting, they get that opportunity.
All campers should bring their volleyball attire: shorts or tights, t-shirts, socks, court shoes, and knee pads.
Each day, the camp runs from 8:30am until 4:30pm, with the exception of Friday which is a half day, with the tournament taking place that morning. Session 3 runs three full days (8:30am to 4:30pm) each day with the tournament Wed afternoon.
Again thank you for considering Air Force Volleyball Camp. We are confident it will be a rewarding experience for your young volleyball players and will contribute to their future success in the sport.
