AIR FORCE FENCERS FINISH DAY 1 OF NICK TOTH OPEN

    U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - Sept. 8, 2012 - The Air Force Academy fencing team completed the first day of the Nick Toth Open at the Academy's Cadet Gymnasium (East Gym).  In the final round of the open senior men's saber championships, Air Force fencer Emerson Woerner won the title bout 15-9.  As the No. 5 seed, Woerner advanced through the rounds 15-7, 15-10, 15-8 and 15-11. Finishing in second place, teammate Scott Pippin, the No. 3 seed, finished 15-4, 15-10, 15-13, losing 15-9 to Woerner in the gold medal round.  Desirae Ionata tied for third place in the open senior women's saber event.
