    Pair of Falcons Ranked Among Top Freshmen by Inside Lacrosse

    Air Force freshmen Keith Dreyer and Kyle O'Brien have been listed by Inside Lacrosse in its initial Freshman Rankings for the 2012 season. Each year, Inside Lacrosse rates the top 25 freshmen in NCAA Division I lacrosse; Wednesday's ranking is the first of three updates during the season.

    Dreyer, rated 10th by Inside Lacrosse, currently leads all freshmen in the nation with 4.33 points per game, while tallying a team-best 17 assists on the year. Meanwhile, O'Brien, a defensive standout for the Falcons with 23 ground balls and eight caused turnovers, is ranked 15th by Inside Lacrosse

    What's upcoming in Air Force sports

    The National Championship Boxing Tournament is Coming to the Air Force Academy - The Nation's best boxers will descend on the Air Force Academy April 5th through the 7th to compete for the national championship in a full range of weight classes.  Tickets are available by contacting the AFA ticket office at 719-472-1895 or clicking here.  Prices for admission are only $10 per day and $20 for an all session pass good for all three rounds.  Premium seating is available center ring for $15 a day and $30 all session.  Kids 10 and under are free.  Thursday and Friday bouts will run from 4pm - 8pm and the finals will be held on Saturday from 2-5 pm.

     

    Baseball Home Opening Series vs. UNLV - March 23rd - 25th - Sunshine and warm temperatures in the 70's are in the forecast this weekend a perfect time to catch some baseball at the Academy.  The Falcons open up their home schedule starting on Friday vs. UNLV @ 3 pm.  Game two is set for Saturday at 1 pm and the series finale will be at high noon Sunday.  Admission is free.

     

    Men's Lacrosse vs. #11 Denver - March 24th - Air Force men's lacrosse has a big home game against front range rival and national power Denver this Saturday, March 24th at Falcon Stadium.  Game time is 1 pm and admission is free.

     

    Men's Tennis vs. San Diego State - March 25th - The Falcon men's tennis team will be back in action this Sunday for an afternoon match against MWC foe San Diego State @ 12 pm.  Competition will be held at the Cadet Gymnasium.  Admission is free.

    This week in Air Force athletics

    Men's Tennis vs. South Dakota State and Saint Louis - March 14th and 15th- The Falcon men's tennis team will be hosting a pair of matches this week at the Cadet Gymnasium.  Admission is free to both contests.  Air Force will welcome in South Dakota State on Wednesday, March 14th @ 4 pm and then wrap up this week's play against Saint Louis on Thursday, March 15th @ 4 pm.

     

    Hockey vs. Mercyhurst - AHA Final Four - March 16th    Air Force hockey travels to Rochester, NY this weekend to battle for an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.  The Falcons are scheduled to face 4th seeded Mercyhurst on Friday, March 16th during the first game of the semis at 4:05 pm.  Tickets are available for this weekend's games at the Blue Cross Arena Box Office or ticketmaster.com.  The two-day, three-game pass is $32 for adults and $22 for students, and $10 for children under 12, single-day passes are $18, $12 and $6.25 based on seating areas.  No. 2 seed Niagara will play 3rd seeded RIT in the nightcap on Friday at 7:35 pm.

    Coach Calhoun - Grand Marshall in the Colorado Springs St. Patrick's Day Parade - Coach Calhoun will lead the festivities downtown this Saturday during the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade along Tejon St.  The parade will begin at St. Vrain and Tejon at noon this Saturday and continue South down Tejon to Vermijo.  Festivities will include marching bands, floats, classic cars, bagpipers and lots of leprechauns!  For  tickets to the grandstand seating, calll 719-635-8803.  Tickets include seating near the parade announcer, snacks, drinks and Irish baubles.

    Air Force 2012 football schedule released by conference

     

    U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. - The 2012 Air Force football schedule, announced today by the Mountain West Conference, features a 12-game schedule with six home and six away games and opens on Sept. 1 with Idaho State on Parent's Weekend at the Academy. Four teams that participated in bowl games in 2011 also highlight the schedule. Game times and television coverage, including possible non-Saturday games, will be determined and announced later this spring by the conference.

     

    The Falcons open road play at Michigan in Ann Arbor at the "Big House" on Sept. 8 following the home opener. The Falcons have an open week Sept. 15 before opening conference play at UNLV Sept. 22. In-state rival Colorado State visits Falcon Stadium Sept. 29. Air Force begins its quest for the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy the following week when Navy comes to Colorado Springs Oct. 6. The Navy game begins a four-game October stretch that has the Falcons in Falcon Stadium three times. Air Force is at Wyoming Oct. 13 before closing out the month vs. New Mexico Oct. 20 and Nevada Oct. 27.

     

    Air Force's final non-conference tilt kicks off November when the Falcons travel to West Point to take on Army Nov. 3. November features three road games, as the team travels to the other coast the following week to play at San Diego State Nov. 10. Hawai'i plays in Falcon Stadium Nov. 17 in the lone home game of the month before the team closes out the regular season at Fresno State Nov. 24.

     

    The Mountain West Conference membership in the fall of 2012 includes Air Force, Boise State, who Air Force doesn't play in 2012, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawai'i, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV and Wyoming.
