    This week in Air Force athletics

    YOUTH NIGHT AT AIR FORCE VS. #12 UNLV SHOWDOWN THIS SATURDAY  

    The Falcon men's team looks to get back into the win column against TCU tomorrow night after a hard fought road loss at San Diego State over the weekend.  Following the road trip to Fort Worth, Air Force will return home to host another one of the nation's premier teams as 12th ranked UNLV heads to town for a Saturday night battle at Clune Arena.  Tipoff is set for 7 pm.  The atmosphere in the Cadet Field House promises to be lively as everyone's favorite mascot "The Bird" will be celebrating his birthday with the help of his mascot buddies.  Festivities will include the first ever Mascot Olympics and a special free giveaway for the first 700 kids in attendance.  All early arriving youth will receive a free AFA basketball replica jersey at the gate.  As part of Youth Night all kids aged 15 and under will also receive $5 admission to the game with purchase of an adult ticket.  For more information or to reserve your seats click here or contact the Air Force ticket office at 472-1895.

     

    WOMEN'S HOOPS SHOOTS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT PACK THE HOUSE CHALLENGE TITLE

    The Air Force women's basketball team will be in action this Wednesday at Clune Arena for a big game against TCU @ 7 pm.  The Falcons would like to invite fans out for the annual Pack the House Challenge, an NCAA initiative to help schools around the country break attendance records at their respective home courts.  Last season the women's team set a single game attendance record and won the conference portion of the challenge for the first time in school history.  The Falcons look to repeat last year's event with an even bigger turnout this season.  Fans attending the game can take advantage of a special 1,2,3 ticket and concession discount with sodas available for only a buck, hot dogs $2 and tickets for only $3!  Tickets will be available at the Clune Arena box office on game night, we hope to see you there. 

     

    Coach Reynolds Radio Show - January 26th - Stop by Back East Bar and Grill after work this Thursday for the Coach Reynolds Radio Show live at 6:30pm.  Catch up with Coach on everything that has been going on with Falcon men's basketball and enjoy some great food and drink specials during Back East's extended happy hour. 

     

    Women's Basketball vs. TCU - January 25th   - Help support the women's basketball program as they aim to capture their second straight Pack the House Challenge.  Winners receive cash prizes from the NCAA to help with funding.  Fans attending the game will be eligible for a great deal at the ticket window and concession stand.  Sodas will be available for only $1, hot dogs are $2 and tickets are $3!  Tickets can be picked up tomorrow night at the Clune Arena box office.

     

    Men's and Women's Swimming - Falcon Invitational - January 27th and 28th  -
    The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in competition this Friday and Saturday from the Cadet Gymnasium Natatorium.  Meet time is scheduled for 12 pm on Friday and 9 am on Saturday.  Admission is free for both events.

     

    Track and Field  - January 27th and 28th  - Air Force Track and Field will be hosting two events this weekend starting with the Indoor Combined Meet at the Cadet Field House on Friday @ 1 pm.  The team will be back at it on Saturday morning for the Air Force Team Challenge @ 9 am.  Admission is free to both events.

     

    Men's Basketball vs. #12 UNLV - January 28th - Help pack into Clune Arena as the Falcons host their first ranked opponent of the season.  It's Youth Night which means all tickets for kids age 15 and under will be available for only $5 with the purchase of an adult ticket.  The first 700 youth in attendance will also receive a free AFA replica basketball jersey at the gate.  Click here for tickets.

    Cole VonOhlen Tabbed Third in Initial Coaches' Panel Rankings

    Junior wrestling co-captain Cole VonOhlen is rated third at 149 pounds in the first of three coaches' panel rankings, released today by the NCAA.

    The final rankings will be one of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine the qualifiers for the 2012 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Other tools used in national championship selection include winning percentage and ratings percentage index (RPI).

    VonOhlen, a two-time NCAA qualifier at 141 pounds, currently leads the Falcons with a 23-2 mark on the season.

    Wrestling Opening Week - January 19th and January 21st  - Air Force wrestling starts of the 2012 campaign with a set of home meets this week starting with a Thursday showdown with Utah Valley at 7 pm.  The Falcons will turnaround and host a Saturday doubleheader at Clune Arena with Cal Poly @ 5 pm and New Mexico @ 6:45 pm.  Admission is free.

     

    Boxing Friday Night Fights - January 19th  -
    Just under a  month out from the first round of the Wing Open, championship contenders are in full preparation for a shot at fighting in Clune Arena on March 1st.  Stop by the Cadet Gymnasium boxing room on Friday for a chance to watch this year's crop of fighters.  Admission is free.

     

    Men's Swimming Back to Back - January 20th and 21st  Men's swimming will be back at the friendly confines of the Cadet Gymnasium Natatorium on Friday night vs. Wyoming @ 6 pm and on Saturday vs. Denver starting at 1 pm.  Admission is free.

     

    Men's Tennis Saturday Doubleheader - Men's tennis will play two this Saturday at the Cadet Gymnasium Indoor Tennis Courts.  The action starts early with a 10 am showdown with Northern Colorado.  After a short break the tennis will continue with an afternoon contest against CSU Pueblo @ 2 pm.  Admission is free.

     

    Women's Basketball vs. San Diego State - January 21st - Stop by Clune Arena this Saturday to watch some great college hoops when the Falcon women's team takes on San Diego State at high noon.  Admission is only $2 for youth and $5 for adults.  Tickets will be available on game day at the Clune Arena box office.

    Men's Track and Field Ranked 39th in National USTFCCCA Rankings

    The Air Force men's track and field team is ranked 39th in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason Rankings. The Falcons lead the Mountain West, ranking ahead of Boise State (45), New Mexico (53), TCU (85), Wyoming (119) and Colorado State (unranked). The men are also the top-ranked service academy and the highest ranked program among Division I programs in the state of Colorado.

    AIR FORCE HOCKEY RETURNS HOME FOR BENTLEY SERIES  

    The Falcon hockey team will be back in action at the Cadet Ice Arena for the first time in the new year when they welcome in Bentley for a two game series this Friday and Saturday.  It is Scout Night at the Academy on Friday which means $3 admission for all boy and girl scouts and family members attending the game.  Scout tickets will be available in the general admission section of the Cadet Ice Arena and can be picked up on game night.  Select Falcon players will stick around following the game to sign autographs in the concourse. 

    Saturday

    Saturday night is Military Appreciation Night - All military personnel will receive $3 admission to the game along with any accompanying family members.  Please present a valid military ID at the Cadet Ice Arena ticket office on game night to receive discount.  Click here for tickets to this weekend's games.

    Air Force Track All Comers Meet - January 13th  - The indoor portion of the Track and Field season begins this Friday as the Falcons host the annual All Comers Meet at the Cadet Field House.  Competition starts at 2 pm and admission is free.

     

    Boxing Friday Night Fights - January 13th  -
    Just under a  month out from the first round of the Wing Open, championship contenders are in full preparation for a shot at fighting in Clune Arena on March 1st.  Stop by the Cadet Gymnasium boxing room on Friday for a chance to watch this year's crop of fighters.  Admission is free.

     

    Men's Swimming vs. BYU - January 13th Men's Swimming competes on a busy day of athletics at the Academy when they go up against BYU @ 6 pm.  Admission is free for the meet - held in the Cadet Gymnasium.

     

    Women's Basketball vs. Boise St. - January 14th - This Saturday the Air Force women's basketball team will be at home to take on Boise St in their Mountain West Opener @ 2 pm.  It's Dads and Daughters Date Day which means free admission for all daughters attending the game with their dad.  Each dad and daughter group will also get a free bag of popcorn while supplies last.  As part of the event local dance studio Artistry in Motion will be holding dance lessons starting at 1 pm so come out and learn some new moves before the game.  Doors open at 12:30pm.

     

    Men's Gymnastics Rocky Mountain Open - January 14th - The defending National Champion Falcon men's gymnastics team returns to the Cadet Gym for the annual Rocky Mountain Open.  Competition begins at 6 pm this Saturday and admission $5 for adults and $2 for youth ages 3-15.
