Air Force Academy fencers were three for four in gold medal wins at today's Falcon Open at the Air Force Academy.  In the first day of the competition, the Academy's fencers won the women's saber, men's saber and men's epee championship titles. 


Air Force fencer, junior Heather Nelson won the women's saber championship title. Freshman Emiliano Kaptain was the overall winner of the men's saber event; teammate Scott Pippin, a junior, took third place in saber.  Sophomore Chase Houser won the senior men's epee gold and earned his "A" rating in US Fencing Association. The women's epee champion was a fencer from the North Texas Fencing Club.


The competition continues, Sunday, Oct. 30, with the Y14 Mixed Epee at 9:30 a.m. and Senior Men's Foil at 9:30 a.m.  The Y10 Mixed Epee will be at 10 a.m., followed by Senior Women's Foil at 12:00 and Cadet (U17) Mixed Epee at 1:00 p.m. The Falcon Open is open to the public and admission is free.

AIR FORCE TICKET OFFICE ANNOUNCES 4 AND 8 GAME MINI PLANS FOR MEN'S HOOPS This season fans of Air Force men's basketball can pick their own 4 or 8 game mini-plans based off of the games they'd like to see in 2011-12.  Select your favorite matchups at Clune Arena this season and get in on some great discounted rates.  4 game mini-plans are available now and start at only $30 for upper baseline seating and $50 for upper courtside.  8 game plans are available for $50 for upper baseline and only $90 for all lower level seating.  Click here to find out more about this year's mini-game packages.  For this season's promotional schedule click here. 


Wrestling Blue & Silver Scrimmage  - October 26th - Preview the Falcon wrestling team during their annual Blue & Silver Scrimmage from Clune Arena on Wednesday, October 26th @ 6:30 pm.  Admission is free and open to the public.


Big Weekend for Men's and Women's Swimming - October 27th & 28th - Stop by the Cadet Gym Natatorium this Thursday to catch the Women's Swimming team in action as they host Colorado School of  Mines, Mesa St. and Adams St. starting at 4:30 pm.  Admission is free and open to the public.  Men's swimming will be hosting a meet with the same opponents on Friday at 4 pm.  Admission is free.


Men's Water Polo vs. St. Francis - October 29th & 30th - The 18th ranked men's water polo team will return to action at the Cadet Gymnasium for a weekend doubleheader vs. St. Francis on Saturday and Sunday.  The Saturday game will start at noon and competition on Sunday will begin at noon as well.  Admission is free and open to the public.


Men's and women's Soccer at Home Friday, Saturday and Sunday - Air Force women's soccer wraps up regular season play at home this Saturday vs. Wyoming at 1 pm.  The game will be sandwiched by two men's games on Friday and Sunday.  The men's team will host Seattle @ 7 pm on Friday and Cal State Bakersfield @ 1 pm Sunday afternoon.  Admission is free to all contests.


Hockey Youth Team Night - October 29th - Air Force hockey returns home to play one over the weekend against Canisius.  Puck drops this Saturday at 7:05 pm.  All youth players wearing their team jersey to the game will receive $3 admission.  The first 150 fans in attendance will receive a free AFA hockey t-shirt at the gate.  Click here to order tickets

Join the Air Force Men's Basketball team for a special "Night with the Falcons" event this Saturday, October 22nd at Clune Arena.  Fans are invited to come out and preview the team during an open scrimmage from 5:15 to 6 pm and enjoy some barbeque and all the fixings courtesy of Rudy's Barbeque with Falcon players and coaches following practice.  Coach Reynolds and select players will speak about this upcoming season, answer questions from the crowd and sign autographs after dinner.  Fans that have not yet purchased tickets for 2011-12 can also select their seats for the season.  The event is free and open to the public.  To pick up your free admission vouchers please stop by the Falcon Athletic Center Ticket Office prior to the 22nd.  The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 9 am - 5 pm.


TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SPECIAL DISCOUNTED TICKET PRICES FOR THE ALL-MILITARY CLASSIC DURING A LIMITED PRE-SALE EVENT Tickets for the All-Military Classic men's basketball tournament are now on sale for a limited time at special pre-sale discount prices.  The first annual All-Military classic will be held on Veteran's Day weekend at Clune Arena.  The tournament will tip-off on Friday, November 11th with a matchup of Service Academy Rivals Air Force and Army @ 7:30 pm.  Pre-sale tickets for the game are available for only $5 in upper and lower baseline sections, $10 for courtside seating and $20 for Center Court Club seats.  To take advantage of the pre-sale click here or contact a representative of the AFA ticket office at 472-1895.  


Coach Calhoun's Radio Show - October 18th - Stop by Back East Bar and Grill tomorrow night for the Coach Calhoun Radio Show.  Enjoy great food and drink specials after work and then stick around for some Falcon football talk with Coach Calhoun from 6:30pm - 7:30pm as Air Force prepares for a big road game at Boise State.


Volleyball Home Series - October 20th & 22nd - Falcon Volleyball will be back at home this Thursday and Saturday for a pair of conference matches at the Cadet Gymnasium.  On Thursday the team will be hosting its annual "Dig For the Cure" event and encourages all fans to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness month.  Fans wearing a pink t-shirt to the match will receive free admission.  Fans will also receive a free pink Air Force t-shirt at the gate to help paint the gym pink.  The 1st 200 fans in attendance will also be provided a free meal and drinks courtesy of Noodles & Co. as part of a special Thursday Tailgate.  Doors open at 6 pm.  The Falcons will take on rival Wyoming at 7 pm.  On Saturday, Colorado State comes to town for an afternoon match.  Match time is scheduled for 1pm.  Admission is only $2 for youth and $5 for adults.  


Basketball Facebook Promotion - Fans, be sure to "like" the Falcons on Facebook this week to try and get us above 10,000 fans.  If we reach the mark by the end of the day on Friday, the ticket office will open up a special men's and women's basketball season ticket promotion leading up to the season.  If we reach our goal men's basketball season tickets will be made available for only $100 in all lower level seating areas of Clune Arena for an $80 discount!  Women's tickets will open up at $30 for adult season tickets and only $50 for family four packs!  Encourage your friends to join if you are already a fan and help us get to 10,000!  Click here to visit the Official Facebook page of Air Force Athletics. 

Olympic Sports Round Up - Boxing, Women's Swimming and Women's Soccer at Home This Week - Friday Night Fights with AFA boxing will be back in action this Friday from the Cadet Gym starting at 4:30 pm.  Admission is free so come out and preview the Academy's top fighters in preparation for the Wing Open.  Women's swimming will also be hosting competition from the Cadet Gym on Friday with a conference meet against Northern Colorado at 5 pm. Admission is free.  To cap off the weekend events at the Academy the women's soccer team will be hosting a pair of games at the Cadet Soccer Stadium on Friday, October 21st vs. UNLV @ 6 pm and on Sunday, October 23rd vs. San Diego State @ 11 am.  Admission to both games is free.

This week in Air Force athletics


Tickets are still available to catch Air Force in action during a rare Thursday night game at Falcon Stadium.  Thanks to game sponsor American Family Insurance the Air Force ticket office has opened up a limited number of upper reserved tickets for only $5.  $20 tailgate packages are also still available.  Tailgate packages include a ticket to the game along with admission to the Falcon Pride tent for an all you can eat meal catered by Famous Dave's and drinks up to 2 and a half hours prior to kick.  To purchase tickets for the game click here.

Football Luncheon - October 12th - This week's football luncheon will be held on Wednesday at the Falcon Stadium press box.  Join Falcon fans for a great lunch, drinks, door prizes and a chance to hear from Coach Calhoun before this Thursday's game.  Lunch will be provided by Qdoba.  The menu includes an all you can eat taco bar with rice, black beans, queso and cookies and brownies.  Tickets are only $10 and available at the door.  Lunch will be served at 11 and the program will begin at noon. 


Hockey Home Opener and Skate With the Falcons - October 14th and 15th and 16th - Air Force hockey opens up at home this Friday against Niagara @ 7:05 pm.  Youth Day $2 tickets will be available at the gate for all kids age 15 and under.  Fans can stick around following the game to get autographs and photos with Falcon players.  On Saturday fans are invited back out to the Cadet Ice Arena to skate with the Falcons!  Kids can come down on the ice with the team for a free skate from 1:30 - 2:45 and then meet the players for autographs and photos following.  Skate rentals will be available for only $3.  Air Force will then close up the weekend series with Robert Morris @ 5:05 pm.  $5 Sunday Saver tickets are available by clicking here.

A Night With Falcon Men's Basketball - October 22nd - Air Force men's basketball would like to invite Falcon fans out to Clune Arena for a special pre-season event on October 22nd.  Fans are welcome to stop by for an open practice with the team from 5:15 - 6 pm and then hear from Falcon players and coaches and enjoy an informal meal with the team from 6 - 6:45pm.  Kids are invited to hang out with the team during dinner and collect posters and autographs throughout the night.  Fans will also have the opportunity to select their seats for the season.  Admission and dinner are both free and open to the public.  Rudy's barbeque will be providing the meal so come hungry and ready to preview Falcon hoops.

Air Force Water Polo Moves Back into National Rankings

The Air Force water polo team, receiving votes in last week's national coaches' poll, is currently ranked tied for 16th in the nation in the latest poll, released today by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA).

The Falcons' current ranking is their highest of the season and the team's highest since the 2009 season. Last weekend, Air Force earned its first victory over a ranked team this season, knocking off then-15th-ranked Santa Clara, 12-10, at the SoCal Tournament.

Air Force returns to action next weekend, Oct. 14, when its hosts conference rival Loyola Marymount at 7:00 p.m. in the Cadet Natatorium.

Air Force Lacrosse to Play at Notre Dame

Falcon fans in South Bend, Ind., this weekend for the gridiron match-up between Air Force and Notre Dame can check out a bonus event, as the Air Force lacrosse team opens its fall season this Saturday, Oct. 8, with a scrimmage against the Fighting Irish. The game will take place at Notre Dame's Arlotta Stadium at 10:00 a.m. (ET). Admission to the lacrosse game is free.

Annual skate with the Falcons youth day set for Oct. 15

Join the Air Force hockey team for a great event on Saturday, October 15th as the team invites youth from the community to come out to the Cadet Ice Arena and get onto the ice for a skate with the Falcons. Following the free skate kids can stick around to meet their favorite players for autographs and photos. Skate with the Falcons will start at 1:30 pm and run through 2:45. Skate rental is only $3 and the event is open to the general public.

Brady Amack national player of the week interview

Air Force linebacker Brady Amack was named the defensive player of the week by the Mountain West Conference and several other organizations following his 23-tackle performance vs. Navy last week. Amack earned two national awards, including the Walter Camp award. The link below is to an interview the organization did with Amack.
