AIR FORCE FENCERS WIN IN NICK TOTH OPEN

    Air Force fencer, sophomore Emerson Woerner, from Carmel, Ind., was the Open Senior Men's Saber champion in the Nick Toth Open.  On Saturday, Sept. 17, Woerner was seeded fifth going into the gold medal bout.  Woerner won the bout, 15-6, against Air Force fencer, junior Scott Pippin, who was the No. 1 seed.  Pippin and AFA newcomer Emiliano Kaptain tied for third place.

     

    Earlier in Saturday's competition, Air Force fencer, junior Heather Nelson won the Open Senior Women's Saber tournament as the No. 1 seed, 15-8, against her opponent, Cynthia Villyard from the New Mexico Fencing Club. Nelson finished the day with a 5-0 bout record.

     
    In Open Senior Men's Epee, sophomore Chase Houser, from Air Force was the men's runner-up. Houser lost the gold medal bout, 15-11, to Spencer Amann from Northern Colorado Fencers.

     

    In Sunday's competition, Air Force freshman Alex Chiang, from Atlanta, Ga., was the men's epee champion in Senior Men's Foil.
