The Academy is buzzing in anticipation of the football season opener on Saturday, but that's not all that is going on during a packed schedule of Falcon athletics on base this week. Volleyball is ready for takeoff after a huge win on the road at Navy this past weekend. The Falcons return to the Springs tonight to take on Northern Colorado in their home opener. First serve is set for 7pm. Admission is only $2 for youth and $5 for adults. The first 200 fans will receive a free AFA long-sleeve t-shirt at the gate. The men's and women's soccer teams also both coming off big road wins will be at home for a doubleheader over the weekend. The women rallied to beat Eastern Washington 3-2 on Sunday (click here to read more), and the men took a beating to Houston Baptist, 5-2, to start their season with a "W" (click here to read more). The women will kick things off for the first leg of the twin bill hosting Northern Colorado this Friday starting at 5 pm from the Cadet Soccer Stadium. Shortly following, the men will take the field against Davidson at around 7:30 pm. Admission is free for both events. And then of course the big one on Saturday, as a Falcon team that many consider a darkhorse MWC contender will take flight in their 2011 campaign against South Dakota. It's a high noon kickoff from Falcon Stadium and tickets are still available from $5 and up. Click here to view the ticket promotions on tap for this Saturday.
