Senior Justin Tyner had a stellar weekend at the 2011 Mountain West Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, claiming two championship titles and the league's High Point Award. The native of Baxter, Minn., set Championship Meet Records in both races, as he became just the third conference runner to win the indoor's two longest races at the same meet.
Tyner opened the weekend on Friday by winning the 5000-meter championship in a time of 14:13.33, breaking both the MWC Championship Meet Record and the Albuquerque Convention Center record. He paced the Falcons to three of the top four places in that race, as Jim Walmsley and Jeremy Drenckhahn finished second and fourth, respectively.
On Saturday, Tyner successfully defended his 3000-meter conference title, crossing the finish line in a Championship Meet Record time of 8:16.72. He also guided a trio of Falcons to top five finishes, as Walmsley and Drenckhahn finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Backed by two first-place finishes, Tyner earned the league's High Point Award, becoming just the second Air Force athlete to earn that honor.
