Senior Justin Tyner (Baxter, Minn.) was the runner-up at the Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 29, in Laramie, Wyo. Finishing just eight seconds behind the meet winner, Tyner matched the Falcons' best-ever finish at the MWC Championship meet.
Running at an elevation of 7,200-feet, Tyner clocked a time of 25:09.5 at Jacoby Golf Course. The senior became the third Air Force runner to place second at the conference meet, joining Nick Wilson (2005) and Ben Payne (2003). Tyner, who time was just eight seconds off of the meet winner, also joins Payne as the only Air Force runners to have claimed two first-team all-conference honors in a career.
Tyner was joined on the all-conference team by junior Jon Rock (men's first-team) and senior Katherine Ward (women's second-team). In addition, second-year head coach Juli Benson was named the MWC Men's Head Coach of the Year, as voted on by the league coaches.
The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Nov. 13, when they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to compete at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships.
