    AFA marksman, Tom Chandler, named Athlete of the Week

    Air Force Academy marksman, senior Tom Chandler, Oak Harbor, WA, was named Athlete of the Week (Nov. 15-21) for his accomplishments at the Air Force - UTEP and University of Nevada-Reno meets, Nov. 20 and Nov. 21, respectively. Chandler's achievement this weekend is something that an Academy rifle shooter has not done in a long time.  In both meets, Chandler was the highest scorer overall with two season highs in air rifle with 592/600 against both opponents.  In smallbore, he outscored the two opponents with 583s.

     

    Air Force won the UTEP meet, 4,611-4,582, and lost to UNR, 4,622-4,617, at the USAFA Rifle Range. The Air Force rifle team will host the University of Alaska on Dec. 2.

    Athlete of the Week

    Senior captain Joseph Stafford was one of the leaders for the Air Force wrestling team, as they began their season at the Cowboy Open, hosted by Wyoming. Stafford earned the individual title at 174 pounds in the Elite Division with a 3-0 record on Saturday.

    Stafford posted three decisions en route to his title, defeating Chadron State's Trent Zemple and Fort Hays State's Chance Rencountre before taking on teammate Clayton Gable in the final match. Stafford earned a 5-2 decision over Gable to win the tournament title, the first of Stafford's career.

    Stafford and the rest of the Falcons return to action this Saturday, Nov. 20, as they head to Omaha, Neb., for the annual Kaufman-Brand Open.

    Boxing Friday Night Fights - November 19th Air Force boxing continues it's Friday Night Fights series this week from the Cadet Gymnasium.  Check in on AFA fighters as they prepare for the Wing Open later this Spring.  Admission is free for the general public.

     

    Men's Basketball vs. Tennessee State - November 20th  Help the Falcons provide families in need with some extra food items this holiday season.  Fans bringing a non-perishable food item to donate at the gate will receive $2 admission to the game!  Tipoff is set for 7 pm.

    Veteran's/Military Appreciation Night at AFA Volleyball - November 11th - Air Force volleyball invites fans to wear camoflage to help "Camo Out" the East Gym in honor of Veteran's Day.  Fans wearing camo to the match will receive free admission.  All active duty and retired military will also receive free admission when presenting a valid i.d. at the gate.  The first 200 fans in attendance will receive a free AFA pint glass at the gate.

     

    Friday Football Luncheon - November 12th Stop by the Falcon Stadium press box this Friday for food, drinks and a preview of this weekend's matchup against New Mexico from Coach Calhoun.  Qdoba Mexican Grill will be catering the event.  This week's menu includes, a Qdobe taco bar with steak, chicken, and all the fixings, chips and salsa and guacamole.  $7 a plate, doors open at 11 and the program will begin at noon.

     

    Women's Basketball Home Opener - November 12th The Falcons tip-off their 2010-11 season vs. Lipscomb this Friday at 1 pm.  $1 tickets are available to all active duty and retired military with a valid military ID.

     

    Hockey Hosts Pair of National Powers - The Falcons will host a weekend set with cross-town rival Colorado College on Friday and #5 Yale on Sunday.  Fans that bring a non-perishable food item to the game on Friday will receive a voucher for any men's basketball conference game.  Seating for the game is sold out, but standing room only tickets still remain.  Tickets are only $5 for the Yale game on Sunday, and fans can again bring a food item to receive a voucher for a free ticket to any men's basketball conference game this season.  Click Here to reserve your seats. 

     

    Football Wraps up Home Slate vs. New Mexico - November 13th - Honor the Senior class of Falcon football players this Saturday as they take the field at Falcon Stadium for the last time.  Tickets are available for only $5 in all overlook sections, and fans can redeem any unused Air Force ticket stub for free admission to the game.  Kickoff is set for 4 pm.  Click Here to purchase your tickets.

    FREE TICKETS TO HOCKEY ON FRIDAY!

    Fans can pick up free tickets to the AFA vs. Mercyhurst game this Friday by attending the women's basketball Kid's Night celebration earlier in the night!  All fans that come out to Clune Arena this Friday, November 5th for the women's basketball exhibition game at 5 pm can redeem their ticket stubs to watch hockey at 7:05pm for free.  Kid's Night activities will include autographs and photos with the team, the opportunity to shoot baskets down on the court with Falcon players, and a preview of the team from Coach Andrea Williams.  Admssion is free, must arrive prior to halftime to receive redeemable ticket to hockey.   Other ticket promotions for hockey this weekend include: lightning ticket packages on Friday, and $5 tickets on Sunday with Free Air Force Hockey t-shirts to the first 500!  Click here to be re-directed to the AFA ticket webpage or call 472-1895 to speak with a ticket office representative.

    Kid's Day With Women's Hoops - November 5th The Falcon women's basketball team would like to invite all kids and their families out to Clune Arena on Friday, November 5th for a special event to meet the team, get autographs and photos with players, shoot baskets down on the court and hear from first year head coach Andrea Williams.  Fans can come out early to preview the Falcons new up tempo style of play when they host Metro State at 5 pm for an exhibition game.  Kid's Night events will be held directly following the game.  Admission is free to the general public and all fans that arrive prior to halftime will be eligible to redeem their tickets for free admission to the Air Force vs. Mercyhurst hockey game later that night!

    Fencing Falcon Open - November 6th & 7th The Air Force men's and women's fencing teams will host competition from all over the country for a two day event in the East Gymnasium.  Competition will begin early both days and continue all day.  Admission is free to the general public.

    Fred Acee Inducted into Cortland C-Club Hall of Fame

    Former Air Force head lacrosse coach Fred Acee was inducted into the SUNY Cortland C-Club Hall of Fame during its 42nd-annual banquet and ceremonies on Oct. 30. Acee, a 1963 graduate of Cortland, was one of six inductees in the 2010 class.

    Acee, who began his tenure as the Falcons' head lacrosse coach in 1998, retired from coaching full-time following the 2008 season and still serves as a volunteer assistant with the program. Over the past four decades, he has impacted collegiate lacrosse as a highly successful coach, role model and as one of the founder of the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA).

    Athlete of the Week

    Senior Justin Tyner (Baxter, Minn.) was the runner-up at the Mountain West Conference Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 29, in Laramie, Wyo. Finishing just eight seconds behind the meet winner, Tyner matched the Falcons' best-ever finish at the MWC Championship meet.

     

    Running at an elevation of 7,200-feet, Tyner clocked a time of 25:09.5 at Jacoby Golf Course. The senior became the third Air Force runner to place second at the conference meet, joining Nick Wilson (2005) and Ben Payne (2003). Tyner, who time was just eight seconds off of the meet winner, also joins Payne as the only Air Force runners to have claimed two first-team all-conference honors in a career.

     

    Tyner was joined on the all-conference team by junior Jon Rock (men's first-team) and senior Katherine Ward (women's second-team). In addition, second-year head coach Juli Benson was named the MWC Men's Head Coach of the Year, as voted on by the league coaches.

     

    The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Nov. 13, when they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to compete at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships.
