Jim Walmsley, Cross Country
Junior Jim Walmsley won the 20th-annual Woody Greeno Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 18, in Lincoln, Neb., behind a time of 24:43.6. In his first 8000-meter race of the season, the native of Scottsdale, Ariz., bettered the field of 295 runners by 10.5 seconds to lead Air Force to a third-place finish in the team standings. In addition, with his time of 24:43.6, Walmsley ran the 17th fastest time ever at Pioneer Park.
Walmsley was one of four Falcons to finish within the top 25, as all five scoring runners placed within the top 30. It is the second straight meet that Walmsley has been the Falcons' top finisher, as he also paced the squad at the season opening Rust Buster Invitational on Sept. 11.
The Falcons return to action next Saturday, Oct. 2, when the squad splits for a pair of meets. Select members will travel to Madison, Wis., for the adidas Invitational, while the remainder of the team heads to Boulder, Colo., for the annual Rocky Mountain Shootout.
